C+W O’Brien Architects progressed to Construction Stage on Ormond Quay Aparthotel

We are pleased to announce that we have progressed with the construction Stage on Ormond Quay Aparthotel.

The site forms part of the historical fabric of the Quays which unfortunately has fallen into disuse and has lain vacant for a number of years. It is currently the only unused premises on the stretch of Lower Ormond Quay, between the Millennium Bridge and Ha’penny Bridge.

C + W O’Brien Architects has worked in all refurbishment and reuse of the protected structures facing onto Ormond Quay Lower and the River Liffey, and demolition of structures at the rear which will be replaced by a 7-storey modern extension, in two blocks separated by internal courtyards, accommodating 160 bedrooms. The protected structures will accommodate Reception, Meeting Rooms, Gym and Café/Bar/Restaurant area including a Coffee Kiosk onto Ormond Quay Lower.

This project was granted planning from Dublin City Council without any Request of Further Information and received final granted planning permission by An Bord Pleanála without any alterations to the original proposals.

In their comments the planning authority mentioned that: “It is considered that the proposed development will have a positive impact on the surrounding area in terms of re-development of an under-utilised inner-city site and refurbishment and reuse of the protected structures with active ground and first floor uses onto Ormond Quay Lower, as well as enhancing the streetscape at this location. In terms of use, the aparthotel proposal by its nature will introduce vibrancy to the inner city and added footfall and animation of the Liffey Quays, as well as meeting the demand for hotel accommodation thereby supporting growth of the tourism sector and the economy.”
