Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)

MMC is a broad term used to describe offsite manufacturing and onsite techniques that provide alternative construction methodologies to traditional building methods. MMC bring many advantages over traditional construction methods including facilitating faster project delivery times, increased levels of quality and improved construction sustainability.

We incorporate a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) philosophy into our design approach. Our design solutions seek to rationalise the design process whist maximising the efficiency of materials and systems. Developing this approach during the design process allows us to exploit opportunities to incorporate repeatable, standardised, components, sub-assemblies or assemblies that are considered for their environmental footprint, cost implications, programme, and construction logistic planning.

Our experience in MMC spans across various sectors and have delivered several high-quality projects with various categories of MMC adoption. We have developed an in-depth knowledge and expertise of all forms of MMC, critical to this is a deep understanding of the manufacturing and certification processes pertaining to MMC. C+W O’Brien Architects have visited numerous manufacturing facilities in Ireland, the UK, Europe and China to assess the capabilities and quality control standards. In addition, we have visited many modular projects on-site to develop an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the delivery process. We will continue to do this to ensure that we are up to date with all the developments in the sector.
