This project faced the challenge of turning an old storeroom into a high-tech TV newsroom. The client, Channel 5, was awarded the contract for news programming to ITN and they needed a state-of-the-art newsroom and studio incorporating the latest graphics, technology and desktop publishing.

How to keep absolute silence in a studio in the heart of London City?  A sound engineer was deployed to gauge noise levels during the day and night.  Based on this data the design was modified to incorporate correct acoustic specifications of walls and partitions to produce a studio with no noise pollution

How to ensure an absolute level floor so that automated, unmanned cameras move with is vibration in a controlled manner?  Water was applied to the floor to show the levels involved and then lasers were used to measure these.  The result is a sleek concrete floor, level to within a 1mm tolerance.

How to supply the facilities of a lighting room in a studio without space for a designated lighting room?  Using Tungsten lighting was the ‘light-bulb’ moment, this along with dimmer bars fed directly from an uninterruptible power supply gave to the studio all it needed in terms of lighting requirements.

The project was to facilitate a 5 Star 250 bedroomed Hotel with all associated Ancillary services required on a site of a Protected Structure within the Donnybrook area of Dublin City Centre environs.

The design response was to utilise the existing protected gardens and the existing fabric and create an oasis development within the city urban fabric offering a high-end escape for rest and Luxury. The proposed development was to rationalise the existing structure with varied floor levels by creating a new glazed entrance Atrium that sits between the existing converted church block and existing House. The addition of the 3-bedroom blocks are like the spokes on a wheel, with the central hub of the existing house/chapel and atrium always being the focal point and focus of the resident’s experience. This resonates through to the back of house services ease of access to all areas.
