This project faced the challenge of turning an old storeroom into a high-tech TV newsroom. The client, Channel 5, was awarded the contract for news programming to ITN and they needed a state-of-the-art newsroom and studio incorporating the latest graphics, technology and desktop publishing.
How to keep absolute silence in a studio in the heart of London City? A sound engineer was deployed to gauge noise levels during the day and night. Based on this data the design was modified to incorporate correct acoustic specifications of walls and partitions to produce a studio with no noise pollution
How to ensure an absolute level floor so that automated, unmanned cameras move with is vibration in a controlled manner? Water was applied to the floor to show the levels involved and then lasers were used to measure these. The result is a sleek concrete floor, level to within a 1mm tolerance.

Using Tungsten lighting was the ‘light-bulb’ moment, this along with dimmer bars fed directly from an uninterruptible power supply gave to the studio all it needed in terms of lighting requirements.
